The long drive to school: ignoring the new normal - Strong Towns Blog - Strong Towns

We are enamored with the automobile and most still see it as a ticket to the good life, not a burden on the checkbook. We’re entrenched in 70 years of a psyche that proclaims our prosperity as a nation is tied to our road system (and how fast we can get to the Applebee’s). The end result comes with the caveat that you have to burn a half-gallon of gasoline to pick up a half-gallon of milk.

Scrum Log Jeff Sutherland: Story Points: Why are they better than hours?

Many people who have managed projects with hours have a hard time understanding why story points are better. They have failed to understand some fundamental data that has been published for over 20 years in the industry literature as well as the latest research.
First, let's look at the latest data on project failures. Failure rates are increasing for IT projects during the current disruption of the global financial system. The latest Standish group analysis shows that agile projects have three times the success rate of traditional projects. Jim Johnson now recommends agile practice be used universally on all projects.

JIRA REST API documentation
docs.atlassian.com/jira/REST/latest/, posted 2011 by peter in development hack howto management planning reference specification
This document describes the REST API and resources provided by JIRA. The REST APIs are for developers who want to integrate JIRA into their application and for administrators who want to script interactions with the JIRA server.
JIRA's REST APIs provide access to resources (data entities) via URI paths. To use a REST API, your application will make an HTTP request and parse the response. Currently, the only supported reponse format is JSON. Your methods will be the standard HTTP methods like GET, PUT, POST and DELETE (see API descriptions below for which methods are available for each resource).

And this page has a timer feature to tell you when to switch.

Evidence Based Scheduling - Joel on Software

Using Evidence-Based Scheduling is pretty easy: it will take you a day or two at the beginning of every iteration to produce detailed estimates, and it’ll take a few seconds every day to record when you start working on a new task on a timesheet. The benefits, though, are huge: realistic schedules.
Realistic schedules are the key to creating good software. It forces you to do the best features first and allows you to make the right decisions about what to build. Which makes your product better, your boss happier, delights your customers, and—best of all—lets you go home at five o’clock.
