This is about how I spend 24 concentrated hours spread out over 4 days during Holidays to build the online service Wigitize.com. It is part of my ongoing learning process on how to run a successful web startup.

According to Wikipedia there are an estimated 10.5 million American men who are red green color blind. I am one of them. I discovered this many years ago and rarely think about it as to me it is normal. However, I have discovered that those around me are endlessly fascinated with it—especially designers. So, to you I provide this public service message on color blindness.

How do we create sites that inspire that feeling? Well, it starts with a site that solves a challenging problem and is complex enough to require a certain amount of learning by the user. The goal should not necessarily be to create a simple site. The goal should be to create a site that feels painless to use no matter how complex it really is.

I think Creative Commons has its heart in the right place, because it promotes a climate of sharing. But no system is 100 percent foolproof. Unless you can negotiate every possible scenario for how and where your image will be used, the only sure way to keep protected may just be to not post anything live anymore.

So how do you get web design jobs? Or any other type of job? Here are some things that have worked for me.

This is my proposal for a kinder, gentler HTML 5. The new language I am proposing is not totally compatible with HTML 4. But HTML 4 was not totally compatible with HTML 3, and XHTML would not have been totally compatible anyway, so that's ok.
